Hounds on the Prairie prepares for puppies in advance of breeding day. All our breeding dogs have been genetically tested for Basset Hound disorders. To check genetic testing results, go to Paw Print Genetics, go to the lower part of the page, Paw Print Pedigrees-Show OFF Your Results, next click on the badge, this takes you to Find a Breeder or Find a Dog, type my name or kennel name and test results for our dogs will be displayed.

Our parents have regular vet check-ups and are current on vaccinations, heart worm, flee and tic treatments, plus our moms get extra vitamins. During pregnancy, moms are given pre-natal vitamins and have pre-natal vet check-ups 1-2 weeks prior to delivery. At 8 weeks old, your puppy will have received deworming, first round of puppy vaccinations and a physical from our licensed veterinarian. You will receive all health records for your puppy.

Hounds on the Prairie guarantees our puppies health against life threatening defects until pup is 1 year old. We guarantee our pups to be healthy when they leave us. You are expected to take your puppy to your licensed veterinarian for a check-up within 3 days of picking it up, extra days allowed for weekend or holidays. If you choose not to have the puppy examined in the above stated time, then you assume full responsibility and the guarantee is void. The Buyer understands that the following slight genetic defects are not considered serious or life threatening: umbilical or inguinal hernia, un-descended testicles, Osteochondritis Dissecans (OCD), elbow dysplasia or any form of turn out in legs, cataracts or other eye conditions, or under or overbite. The puppies, like any animal, can be affected by many factors: environmental (climate, living space, etc.), nutritional, stress, abuse, and genetics. We are not responsible for health issues that result for these reasons.  The Buyer understands that replacement of pup from a future litter or refund of monies paid is only valid when health problems are attributed to a hereditary problem that is life threatening and not due to accident or contagious and/or other illness. The health issue must be documented in writing from your licensed veterinarian and the dog returned at your expense. We are NOT responsible for any medical bills, treatments or medicines of any kind after the puppy leaves our home.
